• Mother’s Day is coming and so is the WCDS Plant Sale! Starting Friday, April 30 and running through Friday, May 7, the annual plant sale will open at WCDS. We will have a good selection of annuals and perennials, including but not limited to: geraniums, impatients, marigolds, herbs, azaleas, hostas, etc. There will be a good selection of moderately priced items for the children to purchase.
• Grade 3 students have a lot going on these days. Id Math class, they are learning how to double-line graph the growth of bean seedlings. In Science, they experimented with making lemonade crystals for solution and micro; scope study and in History, they are finishing up their Middle Ages Book.
• Key Club members are continuing their work with the “ Trash Free Rappahannock" campaign. On Thursday, March 25 they cleaned a section of the Lee-Jackson Highway, collecting 11 bags of litter over a two-mile stretch west of Massie’s Corner. Special thanks go to Mrs. Barbara Sherwood who arranged the event and Anna Hickson who acted as liaison..
• Reminder to all alumnt teachers, parents, friends and neighbors: This is the Iasi chance to sign up for the annual WCDS “Silver Bucket” bas^ ketball game. If interested, call Mr. Bill Castellan at the school 635-8555. Everyone is welcome to come out and cheer on the teams and see who will win the bucket!!
• Girls Soccer News: On Tuesday, April 13, our team travelled to Quantico for a disappointing, but hotly contested loss 5-2, during which Mandee Judd scored our two goals. They also went to Randolph Macon Academy on Thursday, April 15 and played a great game, unfortunately that ended in a loss.
• Lacrosse News: On Monday, April 12, the Lacrosse team played a game at Highland against the combination of two teams, Highland School and Wakefield School in the Plains. The game was a heart-breaker. Our boys were up 4-2 until the last five minutes of the game, when we gave up three straight goals and lost 5-4. However disappointing the game may have been, the team took pride in their vast improvement from last year. They may have lost the Monday game, but we’re happy to report that on Thursday, April 15 they won 6-4 against Notre Dame Academy. Congratulations, guys!
