something closer to home, especially those from Fauquier’s southern end, Fredericksburg is less than an hour’s drive away.

Lura Hill, with Fredericksburg’s office of tourism, recommends a children’s walking tour of the historic city. Maps and brochures outlining the tour are available by calling (540) 372-1216, or stopping by the visitor’s center in downtown Fredericksburg.

The walking tour features an 18thcentury estate house, the city’s Civil War visitor’s center, an old-timey apothecary shop and all sorts of stuff related to George Washington.

And Carol Smith, with the Fredericksburg Area Museum, said her staff is planning activities for children and parents all summer. Call 371-3837.
