Up until the end of the prehistoric age, sending your child off to summer camp meant one thing: They would be spending time in a dusty log cabin with 30-40 other campers, where their days would be filled with camp classics like hiking, swimming and home sickness.
But no more; a veritable cottage industry has been built around camps that cater specifically to your child’s individual tastes and aptitudes. If your child has a hankering to be the next Meryl Streep, Robert Deniro or Steven Speilberg, they may attend one of two musical theater camps that are sponsored by the folks at the Fauquier Community Theatre.
Current FCT President Niki Thompson said that the camps are not only fun but they are also excellent forums for expression, and, as well, they act as a feeder system for the FCT.
“Its wonderful to have kids that are ready to go. Some of the campers become so polished that it blows you away,” Thompson.
The two camps are held in August. One is for ages 7 to 9, and the other is for ages 10 and over. The FCT sponsors the events but they are actually run by the Kvenberg’s, Mykal and Sabine of the M&S Studio of the Performing Arts in Warrenton.
