While this piece shows the horror felt by students, she says “I would like to do a follow-up drawing to show the hope and healing of Columbine.” If she is allowed to visit with some of the students, she plans to take pictures to use for that piece.
She has also conceived the idea of a large travelling art show for school children. It would include her art, plus “artistic expressions” by students - art, essays and poetry among other things. Her concept would be a “living, growing connection between students,” going from school-to-school.
Ms. Powell loves children, especially teenagers. She commented, “Society is in trouble, but the kids need love.” Ms. Powell has worked as a substitute teacher, directed a teen drama team and held a coffee house for young people at church.
