What an exciting week this has been! Volunteers are showing up at the schools anxious to work, and we are so glad to have their presence in both of our buildings. Student volunteers, Sonja Anderson, Sandra Oliver, and Beth Yowell, are giving up their Resource Block this year at RCHS to volunteer as tutors and teacher assistants at RCES. Our teachers and students are fortunate to have such competent and energetic assistance.
ROMS students, Ashleigh Burke and Brittany Thornhill, and RCHS student, 'Rachel Sharp had quite a summer..athletically speaking. These girls made history this past summer as the first ever Virginia State Junior Softball and Southeastern Regional Champions and finished the season 16 in the country! They were part of the Culpeper All Star Team that won the Virginia State Championship for softball players aged 13 and 14 held in Bristol. You go, girls!
The schedule of upcoming Band Events was just sent home with band students recently and we are happy to announce that the first RCHS public band performance will be on Saturday, Sept. 18 at 11 a.m. at Cooter’s in Sperryville. They will help to give “Roscoe” a rousing Rappahannock welcome! We appreciate greatly the invitation to perform in this very visible setting. Don’t miss this opportunity to visit with your neighbors and support our band program in the process.
This year there will be a Flag Auxiliary as well. The first training session took place on Sept. 8 with instructor Mandi Wines from Liberty High School’s Flag Team.
We are pleased to announce that a Pep Band is being formed to play at high school athletic events! If you are an interested student, please see Mrs. Lynne Fournier as soon as possible.
The RCHS Fight (Spirit) Song written in 1968, and the RCHS Alma Mater presumably written in the 1950’s are being resurrected with great enthusiasm! A band arrangement has been purchased for the Fight Song and a band and choral arrangement will be written for the Alma Mater if funds can be procured. If you know the history of the Alma Mater..who wrote it, inspired it or sang it and where, please contact Mrs. Fournier at 9878259. She would like to recognize those responsible.
Citrus fruit will once again be on sale through the Band Boosters in November. This is the major fund raiser of the year for our Band program and helps us buy many needed instruments and uniforms. Thank you for remembering us when you make your holiday fruit purchases.
The Band Boosters sponsored a skating party at Dominion Skating Rink in Culpeper on Saturday, Sept. 12. From all indications it was a great success.
