Barring an unlikely economic miracle, Rappahannock Ski Area will not open this winter. Last winter’s mild weather brought the operation to the brink of bankruptcy, although James Moore, president of the operating firm, was careful to skirt the fateful word in a meeting with creditors last Friday. Harvesting corn and filling the silo, whether trench or standing, is keeping the farmers occupied in Rappahannock right now. Cutting, chopping and hauling is all done in one operation and was taking place recently on the Eastham’s farm at Huntly. Mrs. Dorothy Davis tendered her resignation from the office of Mayor of the Town of Washington at the September meeting Tuesday night of the Town Council. Mr. and Mrs. Davis have moved out of the town limits and she will no longer be eligible for this seat. Stepping up to Mayor will be Peter Kramer, who was elected in May to the council for a first term. At the first meeting following the election he was unanimously elected vice mayor by his associates, and automatically assumes the role of mayor at this time.
