VDOT has opportunities available for highway construction professionals. These inspection positions will be responsible for inspecting assigned phases of Hwy & related structure construction for conformance with plans/specs/contracts; informs contractors of potential/actual discrepancies; inspect grading/landscaping/traffic control/safety devices/detours. Test materials & advise on acceptability/placement based on specs/contract terms. Maintains records; prepares timesheets, estimates, progress reports, etc. Maintain/track project & costs; monitor contractor practices; oversee other inspectors; makes project assignments; provides training. May work as subordinate to other inspectors as duties require.

Qualifications: Knowledge of hwy construction inspection techniques methods, procedures, terms, symbols & exper interpreting contracts, special provisions & specifications. Exper. using engineering field equip.; to record construction data. Proven ability to interpret & prepare reports & demonstrated skill in communicating eff. orally/writing with contractors/public. Proven ability to perform basic math incl'd geometry. Mu?t be able to obtain required certifications w/in six months of hire H S grad w/coursework in mathematics preferred. Additional Requirements: Requires working in emergency situations & in vicinity of devices emitting low-level ionizing radiation. Must be willing to work adjusted work schedules & overtime Safety shoes, valid driver’s license, DMV check, valid CDL or ability to obtain CDL w/in 6 mos. & pre-employment phys w/drug screen are required. Any combination of educ./trng/exper which demonstrates ability to perform the job will be considered.

NOTE: Applicants will be considered for Transportation Construction Inspector position ($27,204 - $42,471) if applicant pool is insufficient to fill at Inspector, Sr. level.
