On Thursday, Nov. 7 in the RCHS band room, University of Maryland professor William Bechoefer gives an illustrated lecture on what Afghanistan was like before the Soviets and Taliban.
Afghan pastries and tea prepared by the high school culinary arts classes will be served at 7:30 p.m., with the lecture starting at 7:45. The event is free and open to the public. Call Headwaters at 6751819 for more information.
Holiday closings
The Rappahannock County government offices and area post offices will be closed on Monday, Nov. 11 in observance of the Veteran’s Day holiday.
Also closed will be the Rappahannock National Bank and the Virginia Employment Commission Office.
The Rappahannock County Public School System and the Rappahannock News will operate under normal conditions.

Gray Ghost’s 2001 Chardonnay and 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon each received a gold medal at the Mid-Atlantic Southeast Wine Competition held in Winston-Salem, N.C. Gray Ghost also received a silver for the 1999 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon and a bronze for the 2001 Reserve Chardonnay.
