Mr. Herbert H. Hash received a recognition on Friday at Ruby Tuesday Restaurant in Culpeper, when Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Lathe unveiled a framed picture of him which is hanging in the restaurant.
Mr. Hash was a former Major League baseball player with the Boston Red Sox. (This wasn’t Boston, Va) His baseball career ended with a back injury in 1943, and making a call to the Culpeper County school system was the start of his teaching and principal position at Salem Elementary School.
Mr. Hash continued in his position for 19 years and then moved on to Culpeper County High School where he taught general business and math for another 12 years.
Mr. Hash was also the founder of Hazel River Boys Camp here in Boston, which operated for 10 years in the summers for boys six to fourteen years old.
Mr. Hash has three sons and one daughter, his late wife being Ruth Earle Weaver. Most everyone was acquainted with him, either through the school system, church or regular visits to the Boston Store and post office and even by knowing his home, the “log house” on the hill. Our com
