The Washington Town Council is preparing to consider a proposed amendment to its Zoning Ordinance that would permit a new category of business—the Bed and Breakfast Inn—in the Town's Rural Residential zones.
The proposed change was originally a request to the Town Council by Mary Ann Kuhn, in April of this year, to permit her Middleton Inn to "provide more services to the community," including "catering events and weddings and providing hospitality services to the community and the public."
After a recommendation by Town Attorney John Bennett, the request was put in the form of an application to change the Town’s Zoning Ordinance by adding the new business category. The proposal was heard by the Town Planning Commission in September, and they voted four-to-one to recommend that the ordinance not be so amended.
