A group of about a dozen people met in the old Sperryville Schoolhouse last week to hear Angela Albrecht's proposal to turn the former Faith Mountain store into a cooperative retail venture.
Though building owner Cliff Miller was in attendance, he made it clear that Ms. Albrecht was not acting on his behalf, but that he was willing to listen to any proposal that would be of benefit to Sperryville and Rappahannock County.
Ms. Albrecht had posted a "Memo of Intent" around the County to announce the meeting and to outline her approach for the use of the building. In her memo she advised that she was working to find businesses for the facility to provide "otherwise unavailable goods," "secondary venues of sale to local existing businesses," and "job/business opportunities to the community." "Tb this end," she said, "we propose that the old Schoolhouse Building become the Sperryville Mall..."
Among the elements noted in her memo were: a food court, performance space for local performers and musicians, space for a visitors' center, a florist shop, a bakery, a gift shop featuring locally-crafted products, a consignment shop, a new furniture and collectibles store, a book/music/ video store, a hair/nail salon, and a business center.
None of those in attendance made any public commitment to participating in Ms. Albrecht's proposed venture, but this was an introductory meeting and she promised to advise participants of developments. Ms. Albrecht can be reached at 540-364-4436
