THE SETTLING TANK: From the bug tank, U Sperryville’s wastewater is piped into the settling

Jtank. Seen above through a grate across the top of the tank, the settling tank appears shallow, but is actually around fourteen feet deep, and shaped like a funnel. Water in the settling tank is kept relatively still, and solids remaining from the bug tank slowly sink to the bottom, where they are piped back over to the bug tank to be reprocessed. Sperryville’s settling tank has a small caipet of duckweed growing across the surface of the water. The weed is used at the school treatment facilities to clean their wastewater, and was accidentally brought to the Sperryville plant on a skimming net. According to Jenkins, the floating vyeed doesnl do any harm here, however.
