Lynn graduated from Davidson College in North Carolina, where he earned a degree in history. He then traveled abroad to Dublin, Ireland where he graduated from Trinity College with a master’s degree in Histoiy. His doctorate was awarded by Oxford University in England. “His father always wanted him to be a doctor or a lawyer,” Tucker said, “but he had a passion for education.”
Lynn’s stay in England was cut short due to the murder of his father. His father was a pioneer in medicine in Ffont Royal improving the quality of medical care within the surrounding area.
On Halloween 1967, Dr. Lynn was shot dead in thendriveway. “The most curious thing about that murder is that it was never solved,” said Tucker about the murder. “Bill was devastated by the tragedy.” Lynn then went to study law for two years at Harvard, in an attempt to honor his father’s wishes for him to be a lawyer. Dining the Montessori conference, William Lynn only knew 'Ricker as the “annoying woman who wouldn’t shut up,” she recalled.
She remembers well the first night that they actually began speaking to each other. “I was walking outside the building where the conference was held when I heard someone playing ‘Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring,’ on the piano. It was one of my favorite pieces by Bach, so I went into the room to find Bill playing it.” Although he was playing the time, l\icker remembered, he was picking it out with his ear. “When I asked him if he could play something else he said ‘no,’” recalled Tucker. “I originally thought he was being contrary, however, it was the only song be knew how to play.”
Their first meeting led to an impassioned discussion on education, in which the two of them had a meeting of the minds. “We were both theorists,” Pamela said, ‘We conceived a school
