Deja Vu all over again

The same kind of thought hit me the other day when I was wiping off my new potatoes and sorting them out for storage, mostly just taking the cut ones out and putting them by themselves to use first.

Then, it hit me: Here I am again in 1950-something. We had a huge potato storage bin in the basement. We sprinkled lime over the potatoes to keep them from sprouting. As best I can remember, it didn’t work. We still had to get down there several times a year and pull the sprouts off.

Anyway, we had a big handcrank milk separator down in the basement, gis well. So, you see, don’t feel too bad for us, we have made a bit of progress, now that we are buying and using store-bought milk. Ah, progress, there is really nothing like it, if you like it, and nothing like it, if you don’t.

Please come

to the carnival

Most folks out this way are gearing up for the big Flint Hill carnival next week. We need your help this year more than ever. We just bought a new firetruck, and we are hoping you will come see this fancy rig and maybe enjoy a bit of socializing, perhaps a little music, or the parade, and maybe even buy a hamburger or some fries, or get one of Mary Frances’ pies, or take a chance on Nancy’s new Chevrolet truck we are giving away.

The carnival is next week, Wednesday through Saturday, August 16 -19. Please join us and help support our fire department and rescue squad. These good people are there when we need them. Let’s be there for them wheq they need us. 1 hope to see you at the Flint Hill carnival.
