When the school year started without Dr. Lynn, things looked dim for Wakefield. Not only had they lost an essential character in the program but they were also fraught with overwhelming debt. T\icker was advised to expand the school board in order to get the school back in financial shape. “We always did our best to keep the school from becoming a ‘hoitytoity’ school,” Tucker recalled. “Bill and I always allowed people to pay below full tuition if they couldn’t afford it.”
School schism
As time went by, however, Tucker felt that the school she had founded with her husband was being tom out of her control. She did not approve of changes that were made to the curriculum.
“The board members were mostly respectable pillars of the community,” Tucker said, “but they were more ip the business of money making." What began as a philosophical dispute, soon became a struggle fraught with power plays and lawsuits. While the battle raged on, the board sought to keep the Wakefield name and reputation, and move the school out of Tbcker’s hands and to a new location.
