and I was stuck in Rappahannock County while all my other friends went off to college, freedom, paradise. With college a fading dream, I had to do something with my life, so I went to work. A change of attitude
and a fresh start
After six months of manual, fiendish labor in kitchens, gas stations and concert venues, I decided that working was for the birds and I fled the coup. Depressed and skeptical about becoming a grown-up, I started taking classes at the local community college enrolling in a few courses a semester. Slowly I started accumulating credits and for the first time in my life I actually began to enjoy school. An academic fire was lit inside me and I was soon on the path to self-actualization. For me, high school was like a prison. It was a holding cell that stymied my mind and creativity. But college was a whole new world, one where opportunities were plentiful.
