ently,” Hanley said. “(Former 1st sergeant) Gary Settle ran a great office.”
Hanley noted that under Settle’s leadership, the troopers here enjoyed a good relationship with their counterparts from the Fauquier County Sheriffs Office and Tbwn of Warrenton Police Department. He is confident that will continue.
“It’s nice to come into a good relationship (with the other agencies),” Hanley noted. “One of the things I’ve learned over the years is that no matter how big an agency (you work for) no one can get it done by themselves.”
A transplanted Yankee
Hanley is originally from Massachusetts. He said he began his career in law enforcement after completing his education at Norwich College - a military school similar to VMI.
“A couple of my uncles worked down here - in Craig County. They suggested that I consider coming down here. I got hired and I packed up my pickup truck (and moved).”
Hanley said he met his wife here. The couple has two young children.
“I miss New England, but this is home now,” he said.
