“If you really have to have it exact, you can go to the supermarket,” Hoffman said with a laugh.
Belle Meade only takes personal orders over the phone or e-mail and does not deliver, so the only place to find one of their birds is on site. Hoffman calls it a “word-of-mouth operation.”
Word seems to be spreading quickly, because the number of turkeys the farm raises has grown from 15 five years ago to 100 last year and 150 this year.
“We’ve always sold out before,” she said. “What we raise sells and that’s all that matters.”
Belle Meade has already sold all of its turkeys this year, so anyone interested in nabbing one for next Thanksgiving needs to put his order in early.
