It’s time again we celebrate the day set aside for Thanksgiving Day, a day started by the Pilgrims, many years ago. As we have been blessed to have bountiful meals, historians believe the colonists feasted on mostly wild game and seafood, since they lived near the Atlantic Ocean. Vegetables took very little space on their tables, neither did desserts accompany their meals, without ovens it was impossible for the pilgrims to bake famous pumpkin pies and others, or breads and cakes. The Thanksgiving feast for the colonists lasted three days, and they ate right off the tables with knives, spoons and even their fingers, not even using plates and forks.
We think of the harvest festival as Thanksgiving, the pilgrims called it their Autumn Celebration. Tb them in that day the word “Thanksgiving” was actually a religious holiday set aside for giving thanks to God. It was in the nineteenth century that the feast we know today was called Thanksgiving.
