We were still able to use the gingerbread house the next year, but it finally succumbed to old age. It wasn't a very long-lasting decorative tradition.

The years have passed, and now I have a 4-year-old granddaughter, Lanning. Still wanting a tradition and being a little nostalgic, I decided that she and I would decorate a gingerbread house. I had long lost the graham cracker recipe, but was lucky enough to find a pre-baked kit in the craft store.

When I opened the package, one of tne walls of the house was broken. The directions said that if that happened, one could easily glue it back together with tiie icing, but would have to let it set for one hour before preceding to the next step. After that hour, the walls were assembled. Although I got mixed up and tried to use the roof pieces as walls, the frame was finally ready.
