gone all the way through school and not been asked to write a paper on “What Thanksgiving Means to Me.” This week we would like to relate to you on what Thanksgiving means to a few of our students. We asked a number of students in the school what Thanksgiving meant to them? The answers ranged from getting together with their family and enjoying a good meal to getting a day off from school to hunt. We believe that these totally different ways of celebrating Thanksgiving is the true meaning. The true meaning is having the right and freedom to do whatever you want. We are thankful for the suffering the Pilgrims went through in order to give us our most important privilege, freedom. Even today, faced with all the problems our country has we still have our most important asset: the freedom to live and worship as we please. So on Thanksgiving be thankful for what you have and what you don’t have will not mean as much. Have a Happy Thanksgiving. Ghost And then there is the story of the Baggerly ghost — which deserved an impressive headline opposite the editorial page. It seems a presence of some sort, a spirit being perhaps, was disturbing the pet dog in the home of Mr. & Mrs. Charles Russell of Flint Hill. The Russells wondered how there could be a ghost in their home - called The Chimneys— since the building was a new one. They soon discovered an old foundation beneath their house, and learned that it had been the home of James Knox Polk Baggarly. As a young man — a handsome fellow in this description - Polk had taken a lovely wife. Alas, the poor woman died in childbirth. This tragedy evidently left Polk Baggarly in such grief that he was inconsolable for the remainder of his 82 year life span. It was said for years that his ghost stayed on, apparently to no ill-effect except to occasionally sit in a rocking chair and annoy the dog.
