vinced himself a few years ago that we/he needed — but let me tell you, the price tag hanging on those "few" items amounts to a heck of a lot trips down that Christmasomament aisle at Target.

A colleague of mine told a comic story of how, on their honeymoon, her husband talked her into taking a $250 hot-air balloon ride - to nowhere. "It just bobbed up and down for an hour," she explained ruefully and, still, after many years, somewhat incredulously. The memory still clearly amuses her, perhaps because it is that same "big-thinking" impulsiveness in their purchases feat can make men so endearing, so ... them.

Perhaps the lesson for all of us to internalize at this time of year — when the differences in our spending habits will be so starkly revealed amid fee twinkling glow of Christmas lights — is that both men and women can be a bit extreme in their own ways when it comes to gathering their "treasure," and maybe, just maybe, like a good pair of wheel weights, we can balance each other out. $
