By Charlie Spiering Rappahannock News Staff Writer Game over. The Panther’s girls varsity volleyball team were unable to beat Gate City in the first of four games in the state tournament last Friday. Gate City, the two time defending state champions, shut down the Panthers 3-0. “We definitely didn’t play the way we had been playing in the past five or six matches,” Head Varsity Coach Jared Nieters said. He noted that the teams passing was poor which made it difficult to develop a strong offense. In spite of their loss, the team was elated with their achievement by making it to the Virginia State Finals. One of their greatest achievements was beating Nelson County in the Region B tournament for the Region title.
