show horse. TN seeds were sown when van Zelst and friends Amy Sweet and Pat Faramarzi — who all work in the Thoroughbred industry — met at a recent equine nutrition seminar.
Through casual conversation, van Zelst, Sweet and Faramarzi realized that they shared the same love and concern for the breed, particularly tire "off-track Thoroughbred" that often faces a bleak future after the racing career ends.
The trio envisioned an organization which could both promote the Thoroughbred as an all-purpose performance horse, with the TN acting as a network for people with retiring racehorses to connect with new — and experienced — horse owners looking for pleasure and show mounts.
Realizing the strength in numbers, they decided to join for an organization that could make a difference.
