From the hospital she entered the Winchester Rehabilitation Center and began working very diligently. Upon discharge from the rehab center she could take about 35 steps with assistance and using her walker. Her steps resembled those of an astronaut on a space walk.
Meanwhile a preliminary pathology report was given with a diagnosis of lymphoma while the final report was pending from UVA. An appointment with the oncologist in Winchester revealed the final diagnosis of granulocytic sarcoma. Debbie was then referred to UVA due to the rarity of the tumor. The chances of the tumor being sarcoma were 1%.
More testing at UVA, a bone marrow biopsy revealed that Debbie also has Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) as well. Dr. John Densmore of UVA reports that Debbie is the second case of sarcoma with AML seen at UVA in sixteen years.
Debbie was admitted to UVA following a spinal tap and insertion of chemo into her Spinal canal. She is currently undergoing intense intravenous chemotherapy. Fatigue is hindering her physical therapy. Fatigue is a major side effect of
