Shirley Brown Kushner was recently honored by the American Cancer Society, South Atlantic Division, for work in organizing and chairing the Maryland State Women’s Golf Tournament Tb Fight Breast Cancer. Shirley started the tournament in 1997 and has chaired the event for the past ten years. Through her efforts and those of the women she has recruited to work with her, this tournament has raised over $680,000 — which has gone directly to breast cancer research and patient services. At the 10th anniversary of this tournament, Shirley was presented an award which has been established in her name and will be presented annually to the volunteer at the tournament whose efforts most nearly reflect Shirley’s own dedication. In presenting the award, Kate Allen of the American Cancer Society, stated, “Shirley Kushner represents volunteerism at it’s best. She is dedicated, untiring, and a pleasure to work with. Because of this and many other reasons, I take great pride in awarding the First Annual Shirley Kushner Award for Disting
