Christine Tanner Johnston, 91, of Winchester, departed this life Thursday, April 5 at Greenfield Assisted Living, Strasburg, VA

She was bom August 13, 1915 in Madison County and was the daughter of the late Byron and Nelie Dawson Tanner.

Mrs. Johnston was a retired public school teacher for 40 years having taught in Greene, Culpeper and Rappahannock Counties. She was a life member of the Virginia Retired Teachers’. Association and a member of Trinity Episcopal Church of Washington, VA She was also a member of Rappahannock County Garden Club and was honored by the Garden Club with a State Life and National Life Membership. She served on the Town Council of Washington, VA, was a member of the RappahannockRapidan Community Services Board, and served on the School Trustee Electoral Board. She was a member of the Culpeper Minute Men Chapter of the NSDAR.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She will be most remembered for her deep love of her family, her generosity and her many artistic and culinary talents.

. She is survived by her two daughters, Kaye Johnston Reams and her husband, Andy, of Winchester, VA and Carolyn Johnston Fowler and her husband John of Charlottesville, VA.; four grandchildren.
