Rappahannock need to understand this major issue:
Dominion Virginia Ppwer Company will make its application to the Virginia State Corporation Commission (SCC) in mid-April. Dominion wants to run another 500-Kilo Volt line from dirty coal-fired electricity-generating plants in Ohio and West Virginia (read cheap) and deliver the electricity to the northeastern states (read big profit). None of this electricity is for Rappahannock County and probably none is for Culpeper County. We are simply along a proposed route. Why would Dominion come so far south to deliver electricity to the northeast? Is there a need for this electric power? Dominion haa never explained its rationale.
Dominion is proposing to acquire 150-200 more feet of homeowners’ land in some areas to create a new right-ofway alongside the existing right of way, to build ugly higher cradle-type towers. Farmers living close to or under the existing and proposed towers may not have enough land to farm. Homeowners will have their serene views violated. Pollution will also drift over us from the dirty, coal-fired electricity-generating plants west of us, and Shenandoah National Park will suffer further environmental degrada
