It has been said that there is nothing new under the sun. I don’t subscribe to that particular bit of folk wisdom, especially as it concerns computers and IPODs and GPS units and all the techno-wizardry that is so pervasive these days.
But, when it comes to human nature, that old saying has a lot of truth in it. For instance, I can remember, and some of you can, too, I’m sure, when the term “store bought” had a connotation of high quality. If you could get something store bought, it was bound to be better than something you made yourself, right?
My mother used to make our shirts. They were wonderful. They fit like a glove. Later, we got store bought shirts, and we were eating high on the hog. We didn’t want to go back to homemade; we wanted store bought. How I wish I could get one of Mom’s hand crafted shirts, now.
