Helping Daniel
Our sister paper, the Culpeper Times, has been following
the story of young Daniel Garcia of
Culpeper.
Hilary Lewis started tracking his story last September and together with some moving photos from their photographer Ray Thompson several articles were written about Daniel and his family.
Daniel is 7 years old and was bom with bom with Cerebro-Costo-Mandibular syndrome, one of 70 known cases in the world. He has gone through 12 surgeries, one of which to implant pins in his face to rebuild his jaw. This was very painful particularly for a young boy that when feeling well is full of energy and likes to tell you so.
His mother clings to her faith in God and is left with the hope for Daniel to receive titanium rib implants to correct his rib and spine defects. It is pretty much the only chance he has left, because as he grows, his lungs require more room to fill with air. But his ribs are too small and won’t allow him to breath properly.
This Saturday there is a benefit concert for Daniel Garcia to help with the rib-implant surgery that is now necessary. It is being sponsored by The Culpeper Times, Culpeper Rock Academy, and The Knights of Columbus.
It will basically last all day beginning at noon and running until 10:30 p.m. It will be held at The Pot and Kettle Club located at 21125 Kettle Club Road in Culpeper also known as the Knights of Columbus Building.
There will be 16 bands playing for 10 hours including several from Rappahannock County. Currently on the venue are Rally Vincent, Anarcoustic, The Pink Mob, Kick in the Pants, Anatomic Bomb, Not Guilty, Renegade Sally, Uncooked Children, Rath , Adventures of Felix, Krush, Some Fine Kids, Mandorla, Indecisive, Revenant and Morgue Rats.
There will be plenty of food all day with door prizes and raffles. The admission price is $8 but there is a special rate for families.
There will be police supervision and no alcohol or smoking allowed. This is an event safe for children of all ages that if they are under 12 will be admitted for $3.
Daniel is a very special little boy in a very sad situation. He needs the help of a community beyond his own.
It’s a good cause and a chance to help. Please think about joining the Culpeper community as they raise monies and hope for Daniel’s efforts to hang on to a life he loves.
