Rae’s of Sperryville will be the food vendor this year with coffee and breakfast treats and sandwiches and drinks. A special guest vendor will be the students from the Rappahannock High School Farm-2-Table project selling plants they have grown. The host of this annual event, Waterpenny Farm will be selling vegetable, herb and flower starts. Proceeds from the vendor fees will go to Waterpenny Farm’s low-income share program through the Capital Area Food Bank. Waterpenny Farm is located on Route 211, east of Sperryville. Free Civil War lecture
Brandy Station Foundation will have the first of a series of Sunday Lectures at the Graffiti House in Brandy Station, VA. The lectures are free and for anyone interested in the history of the U.S. Civil War. The program will start at 2:00 p.m. While free, donations are welcomed and will be used for operation of the House. April’s speaker will be Ms. Stacy Humphreys of the National Park Service, and her topic will be Artillery, uses, effect, and importance. Confederate Maj Robert Beckham’s horse artillery was a crucial factor in the June 9, 1863 Battle of Brandy Station. Stacy graduated from West Virginia University with a BA and MS in history with an emphasis on 19th Century U.S. History. She joined the National Park Service in 2000 and is now serving at the Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park where she provides tours and special programs to visitors and groups, supervises the Park Visitor’s Center, and is the Historical Weapons Supervisor where she specializes in artillery.
