lost a special
friend
Our community experienced a great loss of a dear friend and a retired public school teacher in Christine Tanner Johnston, 91, of Winchester, who passed away April 5 at Green field Assisted Living in Strasburg.
Mrs. Johnston was a retired public school teacher for 40 years having taught in Rappahannock, as well as other counties. She was a life member of the the Virginia Retired Teachers’ Association and a member of Trinity Episcopal Church of Washington.
Johnston lived in Washington for years.
She was a also a member of the Rappahannock County Garden Club and was honored by the Garden Club with a State Life and National Life Membership.
She served on the Town Council of Washington and was the Rappahannock-Rapidan Community Services Board, and served on the School Trustee Electoral Board.
Mrs. Johnston will be most remembered for her deep love of her family, her generosity and her many artistic and culinary talents.

Snow bunnies
for sure
The snow that fell overnight. Friday did not stop the children at the Washington Fire and Rescue on Saturday morning About 90 children showed up with their snow boots and winter coats and hats on, ready to find eggs in the snow. It was a big difference from last year when they hunted for eggs.
There were 33 stuffed animals awarded in three age groups. Each child received a fire helmet filled with candy. All the kids had fun finding eggs in the snow.
