gallery and lower the roof. At one point, before the divisions that affected Thornton’s Gap, there were over 200 members. Today, Thornton Gap Primitive Baptist church has a total membership of four. But we still stand and believe as our original doctrines state in this our 220th year!

They meet first Sundays at 2 p.m., and third Sundays at 10:30 a.m., every month. They also have an annual meeting, called a Union Meeting usually held in one of the summer months. At their Union Meetings they have several visiting ministers and during the course of the meeting they will all be used either for prayer or preaching. They do not label their pastor/ preachers anything but Elder as the word Reverend belongs only to the Lord.

They are also a member of The Ebenezer Primitive Baptist Association of which Wayne Baldwin is the present clerk, which meets Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the second week in August. Ebenezer Association will sit in her 179th annual session this year.

Their pastor is Elder Lloyd Richard Cox, age 81. He was called to pastor the church in 1999, and has served us faithfully since. For information on the church you can call 540-5432590.
