Malik escapes
prison time

Gid Brown Hollow marijuana grower Marcus Malik, 72, avoided prison time after being convicted of growing marijuana, not for his own use.
The sentencing hearing was held on Tuesday,, July 24 at the Rappahannock County Circuit Court.
Judge Herman A. Whisenaut sentenced Malik to five years in prison for the crime, but suspended the sentence in favor of two years probation.
During probation, Whisenaut ordered that Malik will be subject to random drug tests to prove that he has refrained from using illegal drugs. Malik’s drivers license was suspended for six months, and 'he was ordered to pay a fine of $5,000.
Malik was found guilty of growing marijuana not for his own use in May. The maximum penalty for the crime is 30 years in prison.
