The interior, cool and uncluttered, further adds to the feeling of spaciousness and lush greenery, since the many windows bring the light and the outdoors into the home.
Peter Kramer designed the hallway floor, a combination of woods and colors that leads the eye to the living and dining areas, as well as up the wide center staircase. The color palette lightens from the main floor up to the third floor master bedroom suite.
Up in this leafy eerie, a faux mural continues to evoke a holiday island theme, and the pale colors add to the serenity. Pairs of birds, both painted and modeled, provide a decorating theme.
The second level holds an office nook and the grandchildren’s bedroom, known to have slept six at a time. A pale green guest bedroom, accented with one deeper green wall, and a spacious yellow and white bathroom complete this floor.
An enclosed porch off the kitchen, a brick patio in back with views of the plantings, and of the tall, planted urns around the pool add to the charm of this new home.
This year’s house tour is set for October 20 and 21. As is customary, dried flower arrangements will be sold at the Parish House at Trinity Episcopal Church in Washington during the tour hours. Special arrangements made to complement the houses on tour will be displayed in all three homes.
