Commissioner Alvin Henry (Hampton District) disagreed with Weinberg’s suggestion, saying it was a political statement that does not belong in the ordinance.
Henry added that the ordinance has been in the works since October, and is the result of long hours of work by McCarthy and Commonwealth's Attorney Peter Luke who crafted the document with a committee of three other people.
Weinberg countered that his suggested wording was probably not considered by the committee.
“We have a responsibility to advise the supervisors,” Weinberg said. “I think we should make clear in [the ordinance] our lack of power.”
