Smith was airlifted to Fairfax after the accident, while Santiago was taken to the Culpeper Regional Hospital Emergency Room.

Due to a previous speeding offense, Santiago was sentenced to a longer time in prison . A week before the accident, he was caught driving 110 mph on Interstate 95.
Santiago was sentenced to 12 months in prison and two years probation for his offense. His license was suspended for eight months, and he was fined $1,500.
The third motorcyclist riding with Smith and Santiago was never caught, after he sped off on U.S. 211.
