Dietel said the committee is aiming to raise $285,000 over the next three years. Most of that will be for one-time expenses, such as a new boiler for the building. Some of the funding will be needed for general maintenance and operating costs.
The Schoolhouse’s prior tenant, Sunnyside Farms, had removed doors and closets to foster browsing and movement throughout the building. Those changes are being reversed now to accommodate office space.
“We’ve already raised some money, but we have a long way to go,” Mahoney said.
Dietel said people can also donate furnishings for The Link’s offices. “There will be things like rugs and furniture that we could certainly make use of” she said, adding that Rappahannock National Bank has already contributed some spare furniture.
The community will have an opportunity to get inside The Link during an open house from noon to 3 p.m. on Sunday. Pledge cards will be there for anyone interested in providing financial support for the center.
