The fascinating and petite etchings of Viviane deKosinsky will be exhibited in a one-person show at the R. H. Ballard Gallery in Washington, VA. The exhibit runs Oct. 27 through Nov. 18.
An opening reception with the artist will take place Saturday, Oct. 27, 4:30 - 7:00 p.m. The public is cordially invited and refreshments will be served.
Viviane’s works are wonderful images full of vivid detail and infor• mation while also displaying the artist’s talent and gift of observation.
Using Rembrandt’s technique of fine line etching, the images are drawn freehand with a steel needle through a varnish on copper and zinc plates which are submerged in an acid bath. Selected hand-pulled proofs are painted in full color with layers of watercolor and very small brushes.
Viviane’s imagery is drawn from her extensive travels, as well as local sources. Her primary explorations have taken place in Paris, London and throughout Italy, and the intimate views of these locales are revealed through her delicate use of line and color. She often references art works and food imagery while creating unique personal statements, thus expressing multiple layers of space and meaning.
