QHow do you plan to
minimize expenses for the sheriff’s office budget?
A Since 1998,1 have been
writing grants for the sheriff’s office. I have been successful in obtaining over $185,000 in state and federal grant funding to purchase needed equipment, reducing the financial burden on our taxpayers. I will continue to seek state, federal and foundation grants to purchase equipment for our sheriff’s office. Through creative scheduling we will maximize our manpower capabilities to increase patrol coverage without additional county funding. We will continue to collaborate with other state, federal and local agencies and utilize their specialized resources, without spending excessive funding on specialized equipment we do not have a certain demand for. We will continue the Jail Contract Bed Program I initiated and seek other jail programs to offset our jail cost. We will continue our jail trustee program to provide grounds maintenance, building maintenance and general labor on the jail grounds and local government complex, saving our taxpayers thousands of dollars each year.
QHow do you plan to
attract and retain topnotch employees in the sheriff’s office?
A We will implement a new
process to help us hire the best possible candidate for the position being filled. The process will include thorough background investigations, polygraph examinations and drug testing. We must keep our salaries and benefits as competitive as possible with surrounding jurisdictions to retain experienced employees. We must promote an atmosphere of teamwork and camaraderie to make people want to work for the sheriff’s office.
