Rappahannock’s grassroots sports and education champion, Amy Hitt, has made a name for herself with her mouth. She stands up, asks questions and shouts until tilings get done. After a Rappahannock high school football player was diagnosed with a dangerous staph infection this month, she gave the Rappahannock County School Board an earful. She wanted to ensure that no other students came down with the potentially deadly infection. She demanded action.
Hitt, 43, flf Amissville, is hoping to unseat Jackson District incumbent Wesley Mills in the upcoming school board election. If she wins, Hitt’s hup-two attitude would bring a kick in the pants to a board dominated by more moderate temperaments, and she would find herself an advocate on the inside, finally able to make the changes she has so long yelled about. In her own words:
Why do you want to serve on the school board?
I want the children of Rappahannock County to have all the services and tools afforded other schools in this state. I want them to excel at all they do academically and as athletes, and to have the options that all other students have. I want the children to be treated with respect and I want them to treat the teachers and administration with the respect that they are due. I want to make a difference.
