With seven years on the Rappahannock County School Board under his belt, incumbent Wesley Mills offers Jackson District voters a tried-and-true choice for their school board representative.
In his time on the board, Mills has helped hire a new superintendent and worked to increase state funding of Rappahannock schools — two tasks he believes the school board will face in the coming years. Mills, 45, of Amissville, has brought a deliberate, thoughtful approach to his duties as a school board member. And drawing on a commitment to community involvement, he would like to continue his service to the county.
In his own words:
Why do you want to serve cm the school board?
Back in the summer of2000, I was asked to serve by a respected member of the Amissville community At that time I believed, as I still do, that good citizens should serve their community. I am investing my time in the children of our county, just as someone did for me when I was a student in Fauquier. I believe my service to the board will be more constructive to the overall welfare of the system.
What experience do you have that qualifies you for thejob?
My seven years on the board has given me a thorough understanding of what it means to be a school board member. The position requires objective analysis of every situation, considering what would be best for the students of our county. I believe I bring that attribute to the board. My professional experience contributes to the overall makeup of the board. My leadership skills have been demonstrated while on the board and in other capacities in which I have served my community
