October is Alpha

Delta Kappa Month

Since 1947, over 125,000 women educators around the world have discovered the many opportunities provided by Alpha Delta Kappa. These include opportunities for recognition of their commitment to educational excellence, for personal and professional growth, leadership, altruism, and for collectively focusing their energies toward school, their communities and their profession. Alpha Delta Kappa was founded in Kansas City, Missouri and currently has over 45,000 members in 1,600 chapters in every state , and in Australia, Canada, Puerto Rico, Jamaica and Mexico.

The local chapter, Beta Omicron, consists of educators who live or work in Culpeper, Rappahannock and Fauquier counties. Beta Omicron was chartered in 1993. International altruism projects include St. Jude’s Research Hospital, and the Susan B. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Beta Omicron chapter supports these projects in addition to SAFE House, Ronald McDonald House, community Christmas projects, literacy projects in Virginia and also for the schools affected by Hurricane Katrina.

Beta Omicron annually awards two scholarships to females at Culpeper and Rappahannock High Schools who are planning to major in education. ’
