What experience do you have that qualifies you for the job?
I have the same qualifications that the current school board members had when they first ran for office, and I have a vision for the school system. I have served on many boards in many different capacities and I have worked for the school system. I have owned my own business and I have worked for major companies. It is my dedication to the children and the school system as a whole, and my desire that the school not be a burden on the taxpayers of this county that qualifies me. Also, the fact that I am willing to get involved and to listen to the people of this county, not just my district, I feel more than qualifies me for the job.
With school enrollment dropping and the budget increasing, how would you reduce the tax responsibilities of Rappahannock residents?
I will take a very close look at the school budget, line for line, and apply several common-sense changes. We have spent money on bigticket items and they are still not being used effectively or appropriately. And there are items that we should have purchased but have yet to do so. I would also like to work with the board of supervisors and the state to find a solution to the land-use issue that affects the schools funding. There is also a huge opportunity for major corporate sponsorship and private donations that has yet to be tapped.
