A lovely wrought iron gate and gracious stairway from the road on Route 522 that rises up into the Sperryville Cemetery now leads to the Veterans Memorial dedicated last spring. This was not the case until recently. Several years ago the wrought iron gates at the Sperryville Cemetery were stolen. The stairs had fallen into disrepair. Thanks to the interest and dedication of several citizens and through the generous donations to the VFW, all this has been reversed. The artistic skills of Jason Weakly, a stone mason from Etlan who specializes in historic restoration (540 923-5020) has restored the stairwell walls and the stairs.
