In the only contested election for a Rappahannock County School Board seat, Amissville pistol Amy Hitt is challenging Jackson District incumbent Wesley Mills.
Both Hitt and Mills bring to the table a steadfast commitment to Rappahannock students, and both agree that the county needs to find additional funding sources for the schools.
Mills trumps Hitt in experience, having sat on the school board for seven years. But Hitt, who has served as a fund-raiser for sports groups in the county and volunteered in Rappahannock schools, nonetheless wields a not-too-shabby resume.
With indefatigable energy, Hitt may also make up in enthusiasm what she lacks in experience. And she promises a more hands-on approach to open lines of communication with teachers and students.
The candidates this week answered questions, discussing why they are running for school board and how they think they can improve Rappahannock County public schools if elected on Nov. 6.
