Rappahannock New* Staff Writer Wally Cox was back before the Rappahannock supervisors at Monday’s board meeting with changes to the proposed 1980-81 county budget—all on the revenue side. Counting the additional income he scratched together, Cox’s preliminary figures call for a tax rate of $4.90, down 60 cents from his estimate of last week but still way over the current levy of $4.20 per $100 of assess value.
“Our general instructions to Mr. Cox were to find a way to peel this down to something reasonable,” noted supervisor chairman E. P. Luke.
To keep taxes at the current level, Cox explained, it is necessary to increase revenue and-or cut expenses to come up with $190,000. The budget Cox brought before the board on Monday still totaled $2,756,602 in outlay—an increase of approximately 17 per cent from this year—but included more than $70,000 more in revenue
