Another Space Study
“We have to get the capital improvements off center,” responded Walter Masterson. “The modular units are directly connected with the 'space situation/’ he' Maintained, suggesting’ that Eastham and Allen Stokes conduct a space and maintenance study at the elementary and high schools, with particular emphasis on the condition of the modular units already in use at RCHS.
Mrs. Massie reminded the other board members that the trailer included in the 1980-81 budget is for the elementary school’s selfcontained learning disabled class, not the over-crowded high school. She noted that the supervisors had asked for any recommendations on capital outlay by May 15.
“I had hoped to wrap up the budget tonight and begin discussion on capital outlay so we could have some figures to give to the supervisors,” she said.
Eastham replied that he and Stokes should be able to complete a space utilization and maintenance analysis of both schools and have a report for the rest of the board by Monday, M^y 5.
Mrs. Massie asked if the other board members wanted to delay a decision on the i modular units until after the report from Stokes and Eastham.
Eastham responded that the supervisors have before them a budget approved by the school board that, even if over the SOQ minimum, is still based on the needs of the school. He added that he would defend the budget “to the last ditch” against cuts by the supervisors, suggesting that the board send a supplementary memo once a decision on the double modular unit is reached.
