Corner, and I noticed that it had Kansas plates,” said Baines. “When I asked the driver for his license and registration he was unable to produce the registration.”

The driver of the car was Willie Frank Bass of Augusta, Ga., and the passenger was Gerald Johnson.

“I ran a license check through the criminal information network computer, and they advised me that the license had been stolen on August 31 from a ”73 Chevrolet parked in Augusta,” said Baines. “Then the Vehicle Identification Number was checked, and it was found that the car had been stolen from Aiken County, S. C., on August 30.”

When Baines checked the car, he also found brass knuckles hidden under the mat of the driver's side. The two men were placed under arrest, and brought to the Rappahannock County Jail
