since grade 7. All have won important academic awards during their high school years and have been active in a variety of extracurricular programs.

Josephine Rood is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jon Rood of Sperryville; Lauren Wemmer is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Christen Wemmer of the Conservation and Research Center, Front Royal; and Halbert Brooks III is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Halbert Brooks, Jr. of Nokesville.

In addition to the three semifinalists, eight Wakefield seniors have been na med National Merit Commended Students for 1985. These students scored in the top five percent of all seniors nationwide who took the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude/National Merit Qualifying Test last fall.

- These eight students are: Sam Houchins, Jeff Johnson, Maria LaBarca, Mary Joe Lawrence, Randy Moran, Bill Steely, and Travis Tisinger.

Altogether, the Wakefield semifinalists and commended students constituted over 40 percent of the Wakefield senior class of 25 students.
